Books to Read: The Black Prism and Blackdog

I read a Brent Weeks book once (first in the Night Angel trilogy)--or rather, I read half of it. He's a good writer, but only being interesting in one of the many plot lines had me move to something else.

However, his Black Prism books have gotten some really good reviews, and there was a lot of effort put into the book trailer, which of course makes the novel look cooler.

So I added it to my GoodReads list. First and foremost, however, I want to read Blackdog by K. V. Johansen, a new book put out by Pyr. The story sounds AMAZING, and whoever did the cover art . . . genius.

(Thanks, Lou, for the high resolution picture!)

Not yet out on ebook, but it's coming. We'll see how long I can wait after I finish A Night of Blacker Darkness by Dan Wells (which is really quirky so far). I haven't been this excited for a book in a while, though. Man, does Lou Anders know how to sell a story.

  3. I haven't tried Brent yet. I usually do audio and the narrators on his books sound annoying. Blackdog, though! Can't wait for that! I actually went to the B&N in Reno looking for it, not realizing it wasn't out until September. Lou is a good salesman.

  4. Thanks very much. The book has actually appeared in B&Ns already - I spotted it in my local store right before Renovation. It's possible it's still working its way across the country. And we just approved the ebook yesterday, and it is scheduled to be uploaded this week, so look for it to show up on Kindle shortly, and on Nook shortly-ish.

  6. Jordan--there was a Barnes and Noble in Reno? Look at me and my lack of adventuring.

Lou--So glad the ebook is approved! But I might just get the hardcover because it's so darn pretty...

  7. It's just trade paperback, no hardcover. But it's pretty too. Gorgeous gold foil on front and spine.

  9. I almost bought Black Prism a month or so ago, especially since Josh liked Weeks's other series. But alas, being a student means that big of a hardcover runs a bit pricey--I'll wait for the trade paperback.

Which is why I'm glad to hear that Blackdog is trade paperback. I was going to buy it anyway; this way it'll leave more room in the book budget for other things too.

  10. Eh, I always forget that I'm not a student anymore. But there's still a student in the house and tuition to cover, so it feels like I'm still a student. ;-)

  11. Oh my, yes. I am excited for Blackdog!

    Also...a book trailer that's good? I'm still stunned. o.o
