Writers of the Future, Take 2

Well, it's official--my second entry for Writers of the Future has been sent and swallowed, which also means Piscis is officially DONE. I actually liked this story quite a bit in the end, even if it was sci-fi. :D

As for a third entry... I have no idea what I would do. I guess I'll have to read WotF anthologies until something new pops into my head. Short stories are not my forte. (In case you forgot.)

But with Piscis out of the way and Weirs currently shoved into Kristy's lap, I have some time to focus on brainstorming this novel that may-or-may-not-involve-teeth. Sunday I get full writing-group-feedback on the draft of TDSF, but hopefully I can restrain myself from revising it for a little longer...

  3. Congrats! You're further along than I am. I have nothing out there, yet. Good luck with your stories. I look forward to reading your blog.

  4. Hadn't heard of this before, maybe I should look into it? And teeth? I'm very intrigued.

  5. Hadn't heard of Writers of the Future? Go check it out! They have four quarters, so they're always open to submissions. It's the biggest fantasy/sci-fi short story contest in the nation.... potentially the world! I definitely recommend entering. Putting "I won WotF" on a query letter will impress EVERYONE. :D

  6. I suck at short stories. I've been meaning to enter WotF for a while now. I registered and then didn't send what I had. I didn't even get anything for my short when I submitted to LTUE, so I figured it wasn't good enough for Writers. I don't know how you find time for novels and shorts!?

  7. I hope your brainstorming went well while I had Weirs. ;-) Good luck with your submissions!

  8. Short stories are a lot harder for me too, Jordan! It's hard to get an idea short enough, you know? But I wrote my first entry in between novels, and my second I worked on once my novel word count for the day was finished (so it took a few weeks, since I didn't work on it everyday) and I finished it up after I finished TDSF. I frequently write on my lunch break!

But definitely look into it. What's the worse that can happen, they reject you? ;) And WotF sends out nice rejections, not mean ones, so all the better.

    And thanks, Kristy!
