Dora the Explorer and Charlie Thinks Outside the Box

So I was going to post pictures from the Lehi Days parade today, but I left my camera at my friend's and thusly do not have access to said pictures. So, instead, here's an awesome "movie" trailer from College Humor:

CollegeHumor’s Favorite Funny Videos

In writing news, I've suddenly changed directions. Whilst taking a stair lap at work, the prologue to FOLLOWED BY FROST (FBF), a story idea I had jotted down but lost interest in, suddenly came to me, and now I've put THE SONG OF SAGRIN on hold and have completed the FBF's first chapter, which is in FIRST PERSON, of all things. Anyone who's read any of my crap knows I'm a strict third-person-limited kind of gal. Not only that, but this story may very be categorized as Young Adult.

What is the world coming to???

But I'm really excited about this project right now, and looking at it, I think it's a better fit for the current market than my usual epic fantasy. Never hurts to think outside the box (though let's face it, I'm still cuddled up to it fairly closely).

At this rate I should be able to finish the first draft in a couple months, so fingers crossed!

  1. Good luck. First person can be fun, although I too write it rarely. Rick Riordan is the best writer of first person MG/YA that I've read, so if you haven't already read from him I'd suggest looking at some of his work. They're very fun reads as well.

  2. I've written mainly in third person in the past, but I've switched. I think it's because of all of the current fiction I've been reading lately.

    Good luck with your projects.

  3. I typically write in 3rd as well, but after reading Hunger Games and seeing how well Susanne Collins pulled it off, I decided to switch over. I couldn't believe the difference! The action became so much more intense, the colors brighter, the whites whiter...oh, wait, that's Tide. But anyway, it was a huge difference. I doubt I'll write -all- my stories in first from here on out, but it's been a really interesting change.

  4. I should add that I switched to first person PRESENT. And that has made all the difference.

  6. It's always nice to take old projects in a fresh direction.

And I loved the Dora clip. She just became cool again!
