WIP Madness December Check-in: Week 4

Merry Christmas Eve! Congrats on time management if you're actually checking in today!

Santa Clause is comin' to town, and he's bringing with him a copy of an amazing fantasy novel called Daughter of the Forest.

I know, I talk about this book too much.
BUT IT'S AMAZING.

For those who don't know, Daughter of the Forest is a retelling of an often neglected seven-swans fairytale. Amazing storyline, gorgeous use of a curse, and a love story that flips on you and makes you (or at least me) cry.

I'll ship a copy of this juicy specimen to one commenter. Not in time for Christmas, of course, but it will be a nice January read. :)

Have the holidays crashed anyone's writing yet? I'm pushing to get my novel done quickly, but I want to do it right, and I also want to actually see my family during this vacation, so we'll see. :) At least I'm keeping up with my daily word count!

Best wishes and holiday cheer to all you WIPsters!

  1. Merry Christmas, Charlie! I have not read this novel and I actually have the fairy tale as a need-to-read as part of my hopes/plans for my middle grade series of Fable Ranger stories that I'm very slowly working on lol! So I'm commenting away hoping to see if I can't snatch this up. Not in time for Christmas you say? Well now, maybe not in time for Christmas Day but Christmas comes any time I get a new book :-)

  2. Merry Christmas! I have two assignments due in on the 16th January for my Creative Writing MA and I had hoped to use my Christmas holidays to finish it, but it's not working out so far! Hopefully I'll get more done after Christmas, since I won't have to do so much overtime at work :)

  3. I feel like a fool, I'm not a positive what the seven swans fairytale is. Google to the rescue!

  4. Ooh, I 've been itching to read this book, so I 'll give it a shot. I haven't written in ages, but I have been spending my Christmas break in the blanket fort Mark built in our office!

  5. Merry Christmas Charlie! I got my draft finished just in time, finishing it up last Thursday so I've been able to enjoy preparing for the holidays! Have a great one and thanks for hosting!

  6. I lost yesterday due to travelling--6 hours in a car = tired brain in the evening--but did a little revising this morning between scrumptious breakfast and tromping out in the snowy -20 weather to chop down the Christmas tree.

  7. I just sent over final edits to my publisher. In the meantime musing over revisiting another project that is very emotional and deals with a teen and gun violence. Ellen Hopkins told me she thinks it's time for me to finish this story. After the latest shootings, I think I need to finish it. My other futuristic tale needs another round of revisions but for now finishing up Cybils reads.

I've been kind of burnt out with homeschooling and other things so after the Cybils, I plan to go to a couple movies and read something different. In January will get serious again about my writing and write everyday. Also plan to go to a couple workshops.

  8. Merry Christmas, Charlie! It's weird that it's a Monday. I'm all confused about days/dates with Christmas on a Tuesday.

I'm still working away, at least until my husband gets home from work today. Hoping to get at least three chapters revised today, then hopefully through the rest of the book in the next week or so.

Happy holidays and many blessings to all my WIPster friends!

  9. Merry Christmas, Charlie!

I've still managed to maintain some writing time. Revisions, mostly. I hope to get this done over the break. But I've also been reading a little bit more ... kind of taking it easy amidst this craziness when I can. :)

  10. I'm close to my goals for writing and editing for the month. Two projects are piecing together. Next month is worldbuilding for one and the warp of a first draft before rewrite of my mermaid project. This is getting exciting.

  11. So I've lost all track of time and what day of the week it is. . . I'm still taking a break from the #wipmadness, but since I'm hosting in January, I'd better start thinking about some writing goals. I need to get back to work!

So glad I have all of you to remind me. . .

  12. A very Happy Christmas to all! Like you, Angelina, I've lost all track of what day it is. I managed a little bit of #wipmadness this weekend, tweaking my first chapter a little more and cutting a character and plot line before I get in too deep. Listening to my own voice again, which I hope is a good thing.

It is good to have my family together and reasonably healthy again. Here's to a new year full of fabulous stories, juicy book contracts, and lots and lots of #wipmadness!

    Happy holidays!
