WIP Madness December Check-in: Week 5

Week FIVE! Looks like we can squeeze in one more before January strikes!

On that note . . .

Any New Year's resolutions going around the WIPsters? I admit I don't do resolutions, but I do plan on attacking small presses this year, and starting my battle with agents and publishers anew. I've got [almost] two books waiting for edits, so I'll hopefully be sending out double-duty queries by April!

(Though I feel I should confess here that I haven't written for three days. I usually pride myself on writing EVERY DAY, but Christmas/Family/Hunger Games birthday party has been eating up all my time. Getting back on the wagon now, though!)

ANYWAY, we have a winner for Juliet Marillier's AMAZING book, Daughter of the Forest.

Denise Jaden.

Denise, email me your mailing address at CNHolmberg (at) gmail (dot) com and I will ship your copy of the book! Hope you enjoy it (and you will. Because it's amazing).

Best of luck for 2013!

  1. Congrats to Denies. That is a wonderful book!

Happy New Year to you too! I am doing the 2013 plan today, but I can tell you it does include sending out more subs! Picked up the CWIM for 2013 and will use that as my guide. I really like the articles. Another for sure thing is to journal everyday. The journaling will be about whatever. I really want to get back into using pen and paper.

Thanks for hosting us into the New Year, Charlie! Speaking of that....Happy New Year to you and all the wipsters!!

  2. Hello my dear wipsters! Hope all of you are well and ready for a new month and new year! I'll be hosting over at http://yascribe.blogspot.com in January. You all will be there to support me as I try to put my head and heart back into my writing life, right? Have a great week and I'll see you on Monday.

Thanks for hosting, Charlie. Best wishes for a successful publishing battle in 2013! ^_^

  3. Congrats to Denise! And thanks to Charlie for hosting this month. I haven't been around here much but have been keeping an eye on your tweets at #wipmadness. I'll be checking in with Angelina next week and will hope to have thought of some goals by then. I don't do New Year's Resolutions but I do like to re-evaluate my progress at the start of a new year. I know I haven't made a lot in the past year... lots of writing, of course, but only one query... so I need to put more effort into that part.

My best to all the Wipsters. May your New Year be filled will many blessings. See you in 2013 at Angelina's place.

  4. Everyone needs a break from everything on occasion. The things for which you took your break were most deserving. Here's to a most excellent New Year for you!

  5. I haven't been writing much either and it's beginning to get to me.

I LOVE Juliet Marillier. She's one of my absolute favorite writers. Even though I don't really know how to pronounce her last name.

  6. I can't stand new years resolutions either, but I'm hoping to re-focus my writing goals. I am *this* close to finishing revisions on Sign of the Star. Like, three and a half chapters from finishing. Hope to finish tomorrow for sure. Then finally sending to agents!

Well, after I write that synopsis that one of the agents requested.

After that, I don't know. I'd like to get back to my NaNo. I have some more beta-reading to do as well. And that backburner project is something I wouldn't mind working on, either, again still in the odd moments when I don't have anything else to think of. But sending out queries *will* be a focus this year. That and trying to eat healthy and maybe shrink a little more ...

  7. Yay, thanks, Charlie! And thanks so much for hosting this month. Soon I will be prowling, looking for daily hosts for March Madness. If anyone is interested, let me know!

As for resolutions, I don't really make them, but I do set goals. Haven't done that yet, but your nudge was a good reminder. Finished my revision during December (just under the wire) and have to face some edits from a different WIP during January. If anyone here has not read my book, Foreign Exchange, and would be interested in beta reading, let me know at d@denisejaden.com - I would love to have another set of eyes on it. Eventually I'll get back to my Nano project...

Looking forward to seeing everyone at Angelina's blog on Monday!

  8. I seriously need to get my butt back in gear and WRITE. I've been so worried about my next project being 'perfect' that I end up not writing as I feel it's just suck city. But I need to get over that. Beth Revis posted a great blog post on not worrying about getting it 'right' but rather just write your story. I need to do. I rephrase that. I WILL DO!

In January will do another round of revisions on my one project that is morphing into more of a contemp YA and less dystopian/Sci-fi. Also waiting to hear back from publisher on sequel to NO GODDESSES. In meantime also playing around with idea of revisiting one project I put on the back burner. It's more of an edgy, contemp YA that deals with a protagonist and the aftermath of her brother's death to gun violence. All the recent shootings has nudged me to revisiting this story but only this time not worry about what is YA or if it's too offensive to some. I just need to write it.

  9. Happy New Year! I will be tackling querying as well. That and Pitch Wars are the first big things for me this year.

  10. Happy new year! I've been a delinquent wipmadnesser this past month, but I'm really looking forward to diving back into it in January. I'd better start thinking about goals before the next check-in!

Wishing you all a wonderful year of words and stories. :)
