Back to the Starting Line

Sometimes your brain just shuts off a story despite months of planning it. The excitement nerve has been severed for Horizon Drop, at least for now. My husband is very sad about this. :O

SO I'm going to let Brain dabble in some other story construction (in part inspired by Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor), and when it's done over there we'll wipe up and get started on THE MATERIALS MAGICIAN. I need the first draft done before Baby arrives!

Ever started the race only to retrace your steps back to Start?

  1. At least you get all your ideas out. I get stuck with so many just closeted away. I think you give yourself room for more ideas but penning them down, even if you end up scrapping them or shoving them away for later.

  2. I quit writing a book earlier this year after about 15k words. And I dabbled in a few a couple months ago, but nothing quite grabbed me. So, yes, I understand :) It's sweet your hubs cared about it!

  3. I've quite and restarted one particular book four times now. I love it too much to abandon it, I truly feel that this is a great story that I have to tell, but I just can't get it right. And so I abandon it, work on other things, and come back to it again and again after a good brain shut off.

  4. Hopefully you can come back to the one that isn't working. And sounds like you have an awesome goal to complete before you have your baby.

  5. Just wait till that kid comes. There's gonna be a lot more Brain Shut-Off.

  6. I think we've all had that excitement fizzle on a story. Sorry it happened, still, rather now than after you've put 60K into it. Maybe as it ferments in your brain it will rearrange into something workable.

  7. Put it away for another day. Who knows... ;)

  8. Yup. It happens. One idea seems so great and then...

Keep them all, though. You might get interested in them again!
